Interesting Places To Visit And Do


Salt Springs: Natural salt springs exist in the highlands enable the people to maintain their salt sufficiency and independence. Once, salt is an important economic item that is, as the barter currency. Now, two or three times a year, a group of people will go to one of these springs to process salt. You can find salt springs in Pa' Main, Pa Umur or Pa' Bangar. Processed in the traditional method, mountain salt has its own benefits which is high of calcium, iodin level which can cure muscle cramps,diarrhea and Goiter.



 Waterfalls: There are two waterfalls that are popular among tourist which are Pa' Ramapuh Waterfall and Pa' Di'it Waterfall. The waterfalls are situated in the thick forest. A good level of fitness is required. It is worthwhile although the journey might be tough and tiring. It will be a good idea to have someone lead you there, an  experienced guide or local people that know about the surrounding area. There are few breathtaking sites and you might have a change to have a close look at monkeys and gibbons.


  


 Batu Lawi: Shrouded in local legend are the spectacular twin peaks of Batu Lawi, 2043m, situated on the edge of the mountin chain surrounding the Kelabit Highlands plateau. This double peaks stand out dramatically from the surrounding thick jungle. You will need 4 days to trek there. The rock is very loose and chunks can fall down easily.




Mount Murud: Mount Murud is the highest mountain in Sarawak. It is located in the same mountain chain as Batu Lawi. You can start your trekking from Bario which will take around 5 days. Throughout the walk in the mossy forest, plenty of pitcher plants and orchids can be seen.








Batu Narit: One of the Batu Narit is located at Pa' Umur, about one hour walk from the Bario airport. It is a remnant of the megalithic culture once practiced by the Kelabits. It is located in a paddy field owned by Mr Sampson Bala Pelaba.



Apple Orchard: When you go to Ba' Kelalan, do not miss out to visit the apple orchard. This orchard is run  the one of the local people. This orchard has been developed since 1990 and the first town in Malaysia to grow the fruit in the commercial scale.


9 Holes  Natural Golf Course: There has been developed a golf course at Ba' Kelalan. Don't expect a clubhouse or buggies available here, but you will find a crowd of spectator in the form of buffaloes.


Star Gazing: If the weather permits, you will able to the clearly the star at night at Ba' Kelalan. You do not need to climb the mountain to watch this kind of scenery, just open the window at the lodge and look up.


Ba' Kelalan Apple Fiesta: The apple fiesta is usually held during the end of April or early of May. This event has been included in the Sarawak event calender. During the fiesta, you have the chance to experience how to plucked the apples and taste the apple.
